Your floor will give you great satisfaction for years to come, but only if you keep it in perfect condition. Here are some tips: common sense precautions that will make your relationship with anyflooring long and happy.

Keep doormats at every door

Use quality doormats outside every entrance to your home to prevent dirt, gravel, sand and other substances such as oil, asphalt and driveway sealant from being traced on your floor. To minimize potential staining from asphalt tracking, we recommend using a latex-based driveway sealer.

Take special care when moving heavy objects

Use a dolly with wide-base pneumatic tires when moving heavy loads such as appliances or furniture. But first, lay down a clean sheet of quarter-inch plywood, masonite, or similar hardboard, to protect the floor. Never attempt to drag or roll heavy objects across the floor without adequate protection.

Some items may be too heavy to move on a hard surface under any circumstances.

Close curtains or blinds

Close curtains or blinds where sunlight hits the floor. The combination of heat and sunlight causes most solid surface floors to fade or discolor.

Support furniture with floor protectors

For added resistance to crushing and dents, support furniture with wide support, floor protectors that won't stain or wide feet / casters. As a general rule, the heavier the item, the wider the floor protector should be.

Protectors should be at least one inch in diameter, made of unpigmented hard plastic, and placed on the floor. Non-soiling felt pads are acceptable. Cylindrical casters with a flat surface width of at least 3/4" or flat rails are best for furniture. If you choose to use metal shrouds, make sure they are rust-proof. Replace your brackets of narrow domed furniture with those with wide bearings.

Clean your floor regularly

Routine care and maintenance is essential to maximizing the beauty and life of your floor. Over time, normal walking and dirt will cause the appearance of the flooring to change. For hard surfaces, vacuum (without a hammer bar), dust or sweep the floor daily or weekly to minimize abrasive grit and dirt. In very sandy areas or on the beach, you may want to vacuum or sweep more frequently. When using liquid detergent, be sure to wipe or rinse thoroughly to prevent film formation.

Read and follow the manufacturer's instructions for care, cleaning, and recommended products. Caution: Hard floors can be slippery when wet. Be extremely careful when walking on wet ground.

Wipe up stains and stains immediately

The best cure for a spill is a quick response. Dab and wipe up stains and spills immediately to prevent spotting.

Start at the outer edge and work towards the center to prevent the spill from spreading. Caution: Hard floors can be slippery when wet. Use extreme caution when walking on wet ground.
